Do you know what a double standard is?
A double standard is when my sister is allowed to wear crop tops and short skirts just because she is skinny. A double standard is when she wears off-shoulder shirts and sleeveless dresses and doesn't get but a "You look beautiful." A double standard is when I crave to do those things, being it of my personality but once I do, I get called names- "provocative", "asking for it", "teasing and distracting the men". A double standard is when I wear sleeveless clothes and attempt to go out that way but I am called back. "Your fat arms are showing, cover them up". A double standard is when I wear shorts or a shirt skirt and I am called numerous names because I am proud of my body but they are not. A double standard is when my sister and I wear the exact same thing but I am treated differently because I have a few extra pounds on me. A double standard is when a male member of my family says something inappropriate about my body but I myself am blamed for it. A double standard is when that same male member says something to my sister but she is consoled and the male member is shunned. A double standard is when I cannot live one waking moment in this country and be proud of my body but I live endless moments in another country and am happy with myself. A fucking double standard is when someone you look up to as a person tells you that they would prefer you if only you looked a little more like your sister. A fucking double standard is the life I live every single day of my life. At my so called home.
